Threat Monitoring - TikTok Profile Takedown Guide

Use this guide to get an impersonating or IP-infringing TikTok profile removed. It covers the evidence to gather, where to file reports, and how to follow up and escalate

1) Gather Evidence (before you file)

  • Profile URL Copy the full profile URL from the browser or app share link.
  • Screenshots showing the misuse (capture evidence such as name, username, bio, profile photo, displayed brand assets, links, messages, or posts that imply official affiliation or support).
  • Official proof of brand or identity you control

    • Your official website URL and contact page.
    • For trademark claims Trademark registration number, jurisdiction, owner name, and proof of registration such as a certificate or registry link.

    • For copyright claims A link to or description of the original copyrighted work and where it is officially published or authorised.

  • Contact and authority A business email address on your domain and a statement confirming you are authorised to act on behalf of the rights holder.

2) Choose the Right Reporting Path

A. Report Impersonation inside TikTok (fastest for fake profiles)

  • Open the offending profile in the TikTok app

  • Tap the Share or ⋯ menu

  • Select Report → Impersonation or Identity misuse (or the closest matching option)

  • Submit the report with screenshots and links to your official channels.

  • This is TikTok’s primary pathway for impersonation and can be used even when no registered IP claim is required.

B. File an IP Infringement report (Trademark or Copyright)

  • Use TikTok’s Intellectual Property reporting forms when the profile misuses protected assets such as logos, brand names, or copyrighted media.

  • Trademark infringement Submit via TikTok’s trademark complaint form. Prepare registration details and ownership information.
  • Copyright infringement Submit a copyright complaint with links to the original work and the infringing profile or content.
  • Tip If the profile links to phishing sites, cloned domains, or directs users to external scams, include those URLs and any evidence of customer impact.

3) How to Fill the Forms (what to say)

  • Describe the violation clearly and factually “This profile falsely represents itself as [Brand] and uses our trademark and branding without authorisation.”
  • Identify official channels “Our official website is [URL]. Our official TikTok account is [URL], if applicable.”
  • Map evidence to the misuse “Screenshot 1 shows our logo used as the profile image. Screenshot 2 shows the bio claiming to be ‘Official [Brand] Support’.”
  • Attest authority and accuracy Provide a monitored business email address and confirm the information is accurate, as required for IP submissions.

4) After You Report: Track, Follow Up, Escalate

  • Monitor responses: Check email confirmations or in-app notifications from TikTok for updates or requests for additional information.
  • Respond promptly: If TikTok asks for clarification or stronger evidence, reply quickly with clearer screenshots or registry links.
  • If action stalls:

    • Re-submit with more explicit evidence showing deception or consumer harm

    • Reference prior submissions if a case number is provided

    • If available, use TikTok Business Support channels and cite the report details.

5) Internal Next Steps (recommended)

  • Maintain an “official accounts” page on your website and reference it in reports to establish authenticity

  • Brief customer-facing teams to watch for confused users or fraud reports linked to the fake profile

  • Log takedown activity, including report dates, profile URLs, outcomes, and repeat offenders, for future escalation.
